A Green Button bonanza

We had a Green Button bonanza in June when our Waitrose Community Matters appeal raised £581 for the Summer Reading Challenge.

We’ve been bowled over by the response to our Waitrose Community Matters appeal in June. Everyone was so generous donating their little green buttons to the Friends of Oundle Library that we’ve received a cheque for £581.

We set out to raise money to pay for three special space-related children’s events at the library during the summer holidays, as part of the Summer Reading Challenge. And it was little green buttons that came to the rescue rather than little green men! As a result of our appeal we were able to book and pay for the Space Experiments Workshop on 6 August, a Bubble Workshop on 12 August, and the Magic Show on 15 August.

Now the Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing. More children are signing up to the challenge every day, and every week the library is running at least two events for children aged 4-11. Some of them are free drop-in sessions, others need to be booked because spaces are limited. You can find the complete timetable on the library’s Facebook page at

Our thanks to everyone who gave us their green buttons, and to Waitrose for allowing us to do an appeal through their Community Matters scheme.
